We are pleased to have the photographic work of Anthony "Thosh" Collins here at King Galleries. Anthony studied photography at New School for the Arts in Scottsdale and San Francisco Art Institute. He has been awarded various scholarships and awards for his photography. Areas of study include, Documentary and Street Photography. Anthony Collins, know to friends and family as "Thosh" (which can be translated as "sun"), is a member of the Salt River Pima Maricopa community and The Seneca/Cayuga tribe of Oklahoma. The Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, is situated in Arizona close to Phoenix within the sacred Red Mountains. Two tribes compose the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community — the Pima, or "Akimel Au-Authm," (River People); and the Maricopa, or "Xalychidom Piipaash" (people who live toward the water). They are the original inhabitants of this area, descendants of the "Hohokam" (those who have gone), their ancestral people. Anthony is a self-taught dancer who started dancing from a young age and is a founding member Dancing Earth theater company. His influences include powwow dancing, break dancing, and capoiera. In 2005, Thosh's photography has been featured in Native Peoples Magazine, New Mexico Magazine and the Santa Fean Magazine. Each piece is an original photograph taken by Thosh. The images are digitally altered in areas to enhance color and depth. The model in much of his work is noted violinist, Quetzal Guerrero, whom Virgil Ortiz has painted to represent his clay figures.
